Cactus is one kind of flowering plant. The native is America. Most cacti live in habitats subject to at least some drought. Cactus spines are produced from specialized structures called areoles. In the absence of leaves, enlarged stems carry out photosynthesis. Some of the uses of cactus are, it is used as a ornamental plants, foods etc. Cacti show a wide variety of growth habits, which are difficult to divide into clear, simple categories. The leafless, spiny stem is the characteristic feature of the majority of cacti (and all of those belonging to the largest subfamily, the Cactoideae). The stem is typically succulent, meaning it is adapted to store water. The stems of most cacti are some shade of green, often bluish or brownish green.
